Who We Are

Research Scientist

Suleyman Sarp Pinar

Medical Student

Sarp is an undergraduate student at Imperial College School of Medicine. He is studying for a Bachelors degree in Medical Biosciences whilst undertaking research projects within the Department of Infectious Disease.  Sarp joined Dr Kibirige and Dr Imami’s laboratory in August 2022. He has been volunteering in research projects ever since, including doing an extensive literature review and biostatistical modelling for the HIVQuant(R) project.

In his initial work, Sarp characterised cytotoxic T-cell responses against HIV-1 in immunised patients from the IAVI B001 vaccine trial using the HIVQuant(R) assay. He produced laboratory and analysed data under Dr Kibirige’s supervision. This project was presented at the Imperial Network for Vaccine Research Symposium hosted by the Royal Society in 2023. His current work for the HIVQuant Project investigates diagnostic and treatment monitoring algorithms in global HIV care.  He will be publishing a first-authored manuscript detailing this work.

Besides the HIVQuant Project, Sarp has undertaken projects in cancer cell biology at the Imperial Centre for Translational and Experimental Medicine (ICTEM) and has expanded his research portfolio by joining the Mucosal Infection and Immunity Group at the St Mary’s Campus to work on the promising self-amplifying RNA vaccine platform.
